Bonita

Bonita is a female Crested Cara Cara. She was found in Florida after being shot in the wing. She can no longer fly, so Bonita is permanently non-releasable.
When Bonita came to the American Eagle Foundation in 1997, she was already full grown so we do not know her exact age.
The crested Cara Cara is related to the Falcon family, but they do not look anything like a falcon! They look like they've been thrown together out of spare parts from many different bird species.
Bonita believes she is the star of the "Wings of America" birds of prey show at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN. While demonstrating that birds can see in color, she cannot resist stopping to pose for any camera pointed in her direction. Bonita also struts her stuff at school shows and other educational programs.
